Obsession beats discipline - go all-in on your craft until you either die or get reborn.
Greatness as Sickness to Average
Once you taste greatness, being served average will make you sick. Exposure to excellence permanently raises standards in a way that makes regression genuinely intolerable.
Decision Rule
Seek exposure to world-class work and people deliberately, understanding that this exposure permanently changes what you can accept. Use this ratchet intentionally - once raised, standards rarely lower.
How It Works
Reference points determine satisfaction. After experiencing A-level quality, B-level feels like failure even if it would have felt like success before the exposure. The sickness is real, not metaphorical.
Failure Modes
Becoming insufferable perfectionist in trivial matters
Unable to ship because nothing meets elevated standards
Dismissing good work because it is not great
Example Decision
“After working with A-players, every meeting with B-players feels like wasted time. Use this discomfort to drive toward A-player environments rather than settling for what now feels physically uncomfortable.”
